Win a New Look: £400 Eyewear Prize Up for Grabs at John Laverty Opticians

A long-established local optician is giving one lucky person the chance to win a frame and lenses worth £400.

John Laverty Optometrists and Hearing Care, with practices in Coleraine, Ballymoney and Garvagh, has launched the competition, giving people across the area the chance to update their eyewear with a substantial prize.

The competition opens today, Wednesday, 30 September 2026 and runs until Wednesday 14th October 2026, with the winner announced by email and on social media after the closing date.

The independent business has been part of the local community for more than four decades, with its story beginning in 1979 when Mr and Mrs Laverty established the practice from their own home in Ballymoney.

From those beginnings, the business expanded into Coleraine and Garvagh and has since grown to include a team of optometrists, dispensing assistants and optical assistants.

Mr and Mrs Laverty have since retired and their son-in-law, Mr Brian McKeown, continues to develop the family business.

Now one of the longest-established optician practices on the North Coast, the business has emphasised personal service alongside continued investment in eye care technology.

All 3 practices have Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) technology, which allows detailed scans of the back of the eye. All practices also use digital measuring equipment as part of their optical services.

Alongside eye care, finding the right eyewear remains a major part of the business.

The team regularly travels across Europe to source new frame ranges, with new stock arriving each month to keep the selection available across its practices fresh and up to date.
