Planning permission is being sought for a series of restoration works at St Patrick’s Church in Coleraine, a landmark that has been part of the town’s skyline for well over a century.

The application, submitted to Causeway Coast and Glens Council, outlines plans for the refurbishment of the church’s existing railings and the replacement of defective stone copings along its boundary on Church Street.

St Patrick’s Church, as it stands today, was built between 1883 and 1885, but the site’s history stretches much further back. During renovation works in 1995, archaeologists uncovered foundations believed to date from at least the 14th century, offering a rare glimpse into the area’s medieval past.

If approved, the latest works aim to preserve both the fabric and the heritage value of one of Coleraine’s most historically significant buildings.
