Rathlin Island Coastal Sites To Be Sold via Online Auction
Nov 04, 2025
A trio of striking coastal holdings on Rathlin Island, one of Northern Ireland’s most captivating and remote locations, are set to go under the virtual hammer later this month.
Savills Ireland will host an online-only auction on 28 November 2025, offering bidders a rare opportunity to acquire portions of the island’s rugged shoreline, including working quays, a wild Atlantic headland, and a historic coastal ruin.
Foreshore Lands at Church Bay and Mill Bay
The first lot features three parcels of foreshore land, incorporating the operational Station Quay and Gage Quay. These lands extend across Church Bay and Mill Bay — a naturally sheltered area forming part of the island’s principal landing point. With its mix of sand and shingle shores and a thriving seal colony, the site represents a distinctive chance for strategic coastal ownership. The minimum opening bid is £25,000.
Wild Atlantic Vistas at Rue Point
The second lot lies at Rue Point, the southernmost tip of Rathlin Island, offering sweeping Atlantic views from its rugged, rocky landscape. The parcel sits within one of the island’s most unspoilt settings, overlooking a coastline rich in birdlife and marine activity. Rue Point Lighthouse, owned and operated by Irish Lights, stands at the centre of the land — a landmark of both beauty and heritage. The lot carries a minimum opening bid of £30,000.
Historic Ruin at Ushet Port
The final lot, known as the Ushet Store, offers a tangible link to the island’s maritime past. Situated on Rathlin’s southern shoreline, the stone ruin is believed to have served as a kelp store and coastguard building, with local stories suggesting possible smuggling ties. Overlooking open sea and close to a seal colony, the site retains its original stonework and historic footprint. Though in a ruinous state, it offers potential for sympathetic restoration, subject to the relevant consents. The minimum opening bid is £32,000.
A Rare Island Offering
Rathlin Island, located six miles off the County Antrim coast, is renowned for its wild beauty, seabird colonies, and rich maritime heritage. Opportunities to purchase land there are exceedingly uncommon.
Savills Ireland describes the auction as “a unique chance to acquire coastal assets on one of Northern Ireland’s most scenic and storied islands.”
All bidding will take place exclusively online via Savills Ireland’s auction platform on 28 November 2025.
