RAF Flypast Not Included In VE Day 80 Commemorations, Confirms Council

Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council has confirmed that an RAF flypast will not be part of its official VE Day 80 commemorative programme.

The possibility of a flypast had been raised last month, with the Council’s Commemoration and Celebrations Sub-Committee informed that, if plans aligned, the event could have coincided with both the VE Day anniversary and the opening race of the North West 200.

However, an update issued on 30th April confirmed that the Council’s application for the flyby was not successful. A spokesperson said: “Unfortunately, on this occasion, Council’s application for an RAF flyby was not successful.”

Despite the disappointment for aviation enthusiasts, commemorative events will still proceed to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day.
