Coleraine’s first padel sports venue is set to open on 22nd October 2025, bringing a new and fast-growing activity to the town.

Powerhouse Padel, founded by entrepreneurs Jon McKew and Simon Moutray, is transforming the former JJB Sports building into a purpose-built venue that combines sport, fitness and social space.

Padel – a racket sport that blends elements of tennis and squash – is played in doubles on an enclosed court and has surged in popularity across Europe in recent years.

Mr Moutray said the aim was to make the sport accessible to everyone.

“You don’t need to be super fit to enjoy it — beginners, teenagers and experienced players can all get involved quickly,” he said.

The venue will include multiple courts, a café, and facilities for local events and tournaments, with the goal of creating a new hub for active leisure and community connection on the North Coast.

Mr McKew said Coleraine was the perfect place to launch Northern Ireland’s newest padel destination.

“We want Powerhouse Padel to be a place where people come together — not just to play, but to connect,” he said.

Explore Causeway Coast & Glens first revealed earlier this year that Powerhouse Padel would be opening in Coleraine — marking a first for the town and an exciting addition to its growing leisure scene.
