Portrush to Host Irish Universities Sailing Event For First Time

Alderman Mark Fielding has welcomed the decision by the Irish Universities Sailing Association to stage a major university sailing event in Portrush on 14 and 15 February 2026, bringing around 200 sailors from nine universities to the North Coast.

It will be the first time the competition has been held in the area, with Portrush Yacht Club commended for its role in bringing the event to the town.

Alongside the sailors, the event is expected to attract volunteers, support teams and family members to Portrush over the weekend.

Alderman Fielding said hosting the event locally would provide a welcome boost for the town, particularly during a quieter period for tourism.

He added that events outside the main summer calendar play an important role in supporting the hospitality and visitor economy, helping to bring additional footfall to Portrush during the winter months.
