Plans To Convert Kilrea Storage Building Into Gym
Oct 21, 2026
lans have been put forward to convert an existing storage building into a gym in Kilrea.
The proposal, by B & F Properties Ltd, relates to land behind 9–17 New Row and includes on-site parking, bicycle stands and use of the existing access onto New Row.
A planning statement submitted in support of the application describes the proposed facility as a community gym serving Kilrea and the surrounding area.
The site lies within the town’s development limits, just outside its designated town centre boundary. The statement says the building is screened by properties fronting New Row.
Parking for more than 16 vehicles is proposed, including two designated accessible spaces. The plans also provide for a level entrance and cycle parking.
The statement considers the potential impact on neighbouring residents, including those at Toberdoney Fold, which lies to the rear of the development.
It argues that the building’s mass-concrete walls, alongside measures recommended in a noise assessment, would help limit noise. An accompanying management plan would control opening hours and how the gym operates.
The applicant also assessed two alternative premises within the town centre, at Maghera Street and Main Street. The statement concludes that neither would provide suitable space, layout or accessibility for the proposed gym.
It argues that reusing the storage building would provide an accessible local fitness facility and could support nearby businesses by bringing more people into the area.
