Plans have been submitted to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council for the redevelopment of a bar in Limavady into new fully accessible housing.

Applicants Eugene & JJ O Neill and Butcher have lodged an application seeking permission to convert the Newtoun Bar and off-licence at 163–165 Irish Green Street into five ground-floor, one-bedroom apartments.

According to the planning documents, the proposals have been informed by a full measured survey of the site, which has been provided to council officials.

The premises, which also include function rooms, a ground-floor apartment, and an off-licence, currently sit alongside a first floor containing seven one-bedroom apartments and one two-bedroom apartment. The development is accessed via existing pedestrian entrances, with a private driveway leading from Josephine Avenue.

The plans outline the retention of the existing site boundary, which is defined by a concrete yard, alongside a newly tarmacked area to the north and east of the property. The site itself is described as relatively flat, surrounded by a mix of residential housing and commercial premises.

The council is expected to consider the application in the coming months.
