A planning application has been submitted to replace fire-damaged hotel accommodation at the Brown Trout Golf & Country Inn in Aghadowey, near Coleraine.

The proposal relates to a section of the hotel at 209 Agivey Road, where a recent fire caused extensive damage to a block containing three hotel bedrooms and a laundry room, leaving them unusable.

Planning documents state that the damaged wing, originally a converted agricultural building, would be demolished and replaced with a new purpose-built structure providing four hotel bedrooms.

The development would result in a modest increase in capacity, adding one additional room, while maintaining the overall layout and character of the existing courtyard-style accommodation.

The Brown Trout Inn continues to operate; however, the loss of these rooms has placed pressure on the business’s ability to accommodate guests and maintain revenue.

The design statement highlights that the proposal is intended to restore essential hotel accommodation and support the long-term viability of the business, which plays a role in the local tourism economy.

Construction would require temporary access from the Agivey Road, along with the removal of some mature trees close to the existing structure.

The plans will now be considered by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council planners.
