Plans have been submitted for refurbishment and extension works at St Matthew’s Primary School, aimed at addressing a shortfall in essential teaching accommodation.

The proposal relates to the school site at 296 Drumsurn Road. It includes the refurbishment of the existing building along with the construction of a single-storey extension to provide one additional classroom.

According to a planning statement submitted with the application, the extension is described as a necessary and proportionate response to current teaching needs. It states that the development is consistent with local and regional planning policy and would not result in any significant adverse impact on the site or the surrounding area.

St Matthew’s Primary School is located within the rural settlement of Drumsurn and currently comprises permanent school buildings and on-site car parking. The proposed extension would be connected to the existing building at the opposite end of the site from the main school entrance.

The planning documents note that this approach is intended to minimise disruption to the day-to-day operation of the school, with limited impact on access arrangements and no effect on existing parking provision.

The application has been submitted by the Trustees of St Matthew’s Primary School and will be considered by planners in due course.
