Plans Submitted for Permanent RAF Memorial In Portballintrae
Jul 17, 2026
A planning application has been formally submitted for the installation of a permanent Royal Air Force commemorative memorial in Portballintrae.
The proposal, lodged by the Bushmills Through the Wars Committee, seeks permission to install a polished granite plinth and engraved tablets on an existing reinforced-concrete platform, approximately 250 metres east of Salmon Rock Beach Car Park.
The plans also include the removal of existing timber benches currently located on the site.
Earlier this year, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council agreed to support the installation of the memorial, paving the way for the formal planning application to be submitted.
The memorial is intended to provide a permanent place of remembrance, recognising the contribution and sacrifice of RAF personnel and creating a dedicated space for reflection and commemoration.
The application will now be considered by the council through the normal planning process.
