Plans have been submitted to the planning portal seeking Listed Building Consent for a series of works at Coleraine Railway Station.

The application, lodged by Northern Ireland Railways, relates to the historic station building at Railway Place in Coleraine, which is protected as a listed structure.

According to the submission, the proposed works span several areas of the station and are intended to improve the condition, safety and functionality of the site while respecting its heritage status.

The plans include the renovation of the roof of the old station building, along with the replacement of a small section of roof covering. Works are also proposed to renovate the canopy over Platform 1.

In addition, the application seeks permission for the installation of roof access facilities to allow for future maintenance and inspection works.

Changes are also proposed inside the station, with adjustments to the wall between the entrance rotunda and the platform area. The alteration is intended to improve circulation and ease of movement for passengers using the station.

Further safety measures are included in the plans, with the lining of the existing footbridge balustrade to help prevent climbing and improve public safety.

As the station is a listed building, the proposals will be assessed to ensure that any alterations preserve the character and architectural significance of the structure.
