Garvagh Library Refurbishment And Extension

Libraries NI has submitted plans to refurbish and extend Garvagh Public Library on Bridge Street.

The application seeks full planning permission for works to the existing single-storey building, which would remain in use as a public library.

Proposals include a full internal reconfiguration of the current layout, alongside a modest extension to provide improved staff, plant, and accessible facilities.

Externally, the building would undergo a comprehensive upgrade, with new façade treatments, replacement windows and doors, and a new roof. Associated site works are also proposed.

According to the planning statement prepared by Collins Rolston Architects, the scheme aims to achieve EnerPHit retrofit standards, significantly improving the building’s energy efficiency and reducing operational carbon emissions.

The application confirms that the site, which sits within Garvagh’s settlement limits and adjacent to an existing graveyard, would not change in use. The graveyard itself would not be affected by the works.

Councillor Richard Holmes said the plans were a “welcome investment in a key community facility,” adding that Garvagh Library plays an important role for residents of all ages.

Libraries NI says the project would enhance an existing community facility, improve accessibility, and deliver visual improvements to the townscape along Bridge Street.

The planning application will now be considered by planners at Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.
