A planning application has been submitted seeking changes to an existing holiday park on the Ballybogey Road outside Portrush.

The proposal relates to Highview Holiday Park at 219 Ballybogey Road and would see the redevelopment of an approved tourism scheme through a revised layout of accommodation, landscaping and visitor facilities.

According to planning documents, the existing approved development consists of 12 motorhome pitches, five glamping pods and two static caravan pitches. The latest application proposes replacing that arrangement with 13 glamping pods and the conversion of an approved toilet and shower block into a self-contained holiday cottage.

The application also includes plans for an ancillary sauna, revised landscaping, a new car parking layout, servicing works and the continued use of the site's existing access.

Planning documents state the proposal represents a "modernisation and qualitative upgrade" of a previously approved holiday park development. The applicant says the revised scheme would provide a higher proportion of self-catering tourist accommodation while retaining the site's established tourism use.

The planning statement notes that the principle of tourism development on the site was established through a previous approval granted under planning reference LA01/2017/1383/F. The applicant states the revised proposal would not alter the existing approved access arrangements and would continue to use the site's existing servicing infrastructure.

Documents submitted with the application state that the revised layout would remove motorhome pitches and static caravans in favour of a uniform arrangement of glamping pods. The applicant argues this would result in a more cohesive tourism development with enhanced landscaping and site integration.

The planning statement also states that the number of accommodation units would reduce from 19 under the previously approved scheme to 14 under the revised proposal, excluding an existing dwelling on the site.
