Plans Lodged For Seasonal Motorhome Site At The Bowl In Portrush

A planning application has been submitted for a proposed seasonal motorhome parking site at lands adjacent to Portrush Recycling Centre, The Bowl, Causeway Street, Portrush.

The proposal, brought forward on behalf of Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, seeks to change the use of the site from a designated “Major Area of Open Space” to a motorhome facility operating between April and October each year.

According to the accompanying planning statement, the site is located approximately 50 metres north-west of 158 Causeway Street and extends to just under one hectare.

The development would provide 42 motorhome pitches arranged around a central access route. Each space is designed to accommodate a motorhome, an awning area, and an additional vehicle, with separation between pitches.

Access would be taken from the existing entrance on Causeway Street. Plans include retaining the current gate and installing an automatic barrier system to control entry during operational months.

Supporting infrastructure would include a small building housing a sluice facility and a cleaners’ store, along with waste disposal via septic tanks. Hardstanding is proposed at the entrance and around the service area, while the majority of the site would remain grassed.

The application also proposes the installation of 1.2-metre-high stock-proof fencing around the site boundary and low-level bollard lighting, designed to limit environmental impact.

Existing pedestrian pathways along the northern and southern boundaries would remain open, and established vegetation outside the site boundary would be retained.

The planning statement indicates that the development is intended to support tourism in Portrush by providing a managed facility for motorhome users during peak months, while maintaining the site's open character outside the operational season.
