Plans Lodged For Coleraine Timber Cabin Factory

Plans have been submitted to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council for a new factory on the outskirts of Coleraine that would manufacture timber cabins for sale across the UK.

The development is proposed for a site approximately 50 metres north of Wattstown Crescent (BT52 1BS), currently a field with woodland and a stream to the rear.

According to planning documents, the building would adopt a straightforward portal-frame structure. Designers say the height of the factory has been kept lower than that of a neighbouring medical supplies company, while still allowing enough clearance to construct cabins and work on their roofs inside the premises.

The applicant has also applied for permission to erect signage at the site.

The project is being led by Whiterock Cabins, a family-run business founded in 2016 by the McKenzie family. Although relatively new in name, the company traces its roots to decades in the building trade and a 40-year involvement in the tourism sector.

On its website, the firm highlights past projects as far afield as South Africa and Andorra, which it says exposed it to alternative construction methods and materials. The company adds that these experiences have influenced its approach to integrating renewable resources and green technologies into its products.

Whiterock Cabins manufactures timber cabins for seasonal and tourism markets, drawing on what it describes as a “deep understanding of client needs” from both a design and operational perspective.
