Planning permission has been granted for the redevelopment of the former Bush Tavern site on Market Street in Ballymoney.

The approved application relates to the demolition of the existing public house and apartment at 15 Market Street, with plans for a new residential development comprising five two-bedroom apartments, along with associated parking and amenity space to the rear.

The applicant for the proposal is Craig Black.

The plans had sparked local discussion when details of the application first emerged last year, prompting the owner of the Bush Tavern to reassure customers that the business would continue operating as normal.

In a post shared on social media at the time, Craig Black said:

“Hi folks, Craig here. I see there is a lot of chat about the Bush this morning!! 🤔
Just to let everyone know it's business as usual. I am hoping to retire after nearly 30 years at the Bush Tavern. Obviously having planning permission will help the new owner if the pub is actually sold.
We are actually booking our music for 2026!!!
So at present we are still committed to providing our customers the best service we can.
Hope to see you all, as usual, at the Bush.”

The Bush Tavern has been a long-established venue in Ballymoney town centre, and the application has sparked local speculation about the future of the premises.
