Planning Approved For Apartments On Historic Metropole Hotel Site In Portrush
Jun 12, 2025
A landmark site in Portrush is set for redevelopment after planning permission was granted for a 24-apartment scheme by Enzo Portrush Ltd.
The approved plans include the construction of new apartments along with associated car parking, landscaping, and access from Portstewart Road. The works will also involve the demolition of existing outbuildings on the site, which once housed the well-known Metropole Hotel — a popular destination in its heyday.
Once a thriving part of the town’s hospitality scene, the Metropole stood as a symbol of Portrush's tourism legacy. Its transformation marks a new chapter for the site, as the seaside town continues to attract both investment and interest from residential developers.
Earlier this year, Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council notified nearby residents of amended plans and additional information related to the proposal. Letters were issued in April, inviting neighbouring properties to the revised application.
Planning was initially granted in 2007 for the Demolition of Metropole House Hotel and the erection of 34 apartments with associated car parking.
After considering the submissions and updated documentation, planning officials concluded that the development met the necessary criteria and could proceed.
Planning was granted on the 3rd June 2025.
