A planning application has been lodged seeking permission to develop a new glamping and wellness facility on land immediately south of No. 10 Castle Erin Road in Portrush.

The proposal, submitted by James and Ruth Alexander, seeks a change of use of the land to allow for the stationing of three glamping cabins, each with an associated sauna hut, along with a separate standalone sauna and plunge pool facility.

The application also includes the creation of a new site access, three parking spaces and associated ancillary works.

Planning documents accompanying the application state that the three glamping cabins would operate as short-term tourist accommodation on a seasonal basis between Easter and Halloween each year.

The standalone sauna and plunge pool facility would remain in place year-round, with the planning statement stating it is intended to operate as a public amenity for cold-water swimmers outside the seasonal glamping period.

The planning statement also notes that the site was previously the subject of a successful planning appeal, which granted permission for a double-decker bus to be used as short-term visitor accommodation after an earlier refusal by the council.

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council will determine the application in due course.
