A brand new board game and hobby store is set to open its doors on Railway Road. Misfit Hobbies Coleraine, founded by local entrepreneurs Ben Jarvie and Samuel Steele, will officially open at 22 Railway Road later this year, with the team working hard to welcome customers before Christmas.

Misfit Hobbies will offer a wide range of board games, miniature games such as Warhammer, tabletop roleplaying products, and hobby accessories for newcomers and seasoned gamers alike. The shop will also serve fresh tea and coffee and feature dedicated play tables where visitors can sit in, relax, and enjoy an ever-growing library of board games.

Speaking about the opening, Ben said: “We want Misfit Hobbies to become a space where people can gather, play, and connect. Coleraine has a brilliant creative community, and we’re excited to create a place that celebrates that.”

At the end of 2023, Misfit Hobbies first opened as a short-term pop-up shop in Coleraine. The response from the local community far exceeded expectations, with customers packing the small space each weekend to browse games, chat hobbies, and meet fellow enthusiasts.

That experience proved there was a real appetite for a dedicated tabletop hub in the town, and the support from local families, gamers, and collectors has given the team the confidence to take the next step and open a permanent store on Railway Road.

The store aims to be more than just a retail space. With regular gaming nights planned, a welcoming atmosphere for families, and a focus on accessibility for people new to the hobby, Misfit Hobbies hopes to complement Coleraine’s town centre offering. Samuel added: "Coleraine has always had a rich history of hobby stores from Bills Hobbies to Beasts of War, even now we're seeing new stores opening that encourage people to ditch the screen and gather round a table like Triangle Card Games and Steel Harpy Gaming and we're excited to showcase what the tabletop hobby has to offer."

Renovations of the new premises are currently underway and Misfit Hobbies is expected to announce an official opening date in the coming weeks.

Updates can be found on their social media channels, where behind-the-scenes progress has already generated excitement from the local community and tabletop enthusiasts across Northern Ireland.
