Local Businessman Buys Historic £9m Eglinton Estate
Nov 18, 2025
A landmark property on the banks of Lough Foyle has changed hands, with the expansive Eglinton Estate in Co Londonderry being purchased by a businessman from the local area. The estate, which came to the market with a guide price of approximately £9 million, covers around 1,075 acres in total.
Most of the holding — about 956 acres — consists of high-quality arable ground. The property also features a three-bedroom farmhouse along with a range of agricultural buildings.
The buyer, Paul Connolly, was identified by Savills as a locally based entrepreneur. Savills managed the sale jointly with WJ Smith on behalf of the executors of the late Rt Hon Earl Castle Stewart.
Commenting on the deal, James Butler of Savills said they were pleased to conclude the transfer of “one of Northern Ireland’s most significant farming estates.” He noted that the new owner intends to maintain the existing agricultural operations, keeping the estate active and embedded within the surrounding community.
