Lidl Progresses Plans For Potential Ballycastle Store
May 13, 2026
German discount retailer Lidl is progressing plans for a potential new store in Ballycastle after submitting a Proposal of Application Notice (PAN) to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.
The retailer is exploring a mixed-use development on a five-acre site on Leyland Road, which would include a new discount foodstore alongside a mixed-tenure housing scheme.
The proposed development site is located directly east of Cross and Passion College and is surrounded by existing residential areas including Leyland Park, Leyland Meadow and Gortamaddy Park.
A Proposal of Application Notice is submitted ahead of a formal planning application and allows developers to begin a period of community consultation before detailed plans are lodged with the council.
The latest move marks a further step in Lidl’s interest in Ballycastle, after Explore Causeway Coast & Glens previously revealed last year that the retailer had been assessing the town as a potential location for future expansion.
If progressed, the development would introduce Lidl’s first store in Ballycastle and could add further retail choice within the town, alongside the proposed housing element.
At this stage, detailed plans, timelines and the scale of the proposed supermarket have not yet been publicly released.
