Hunters Bar

A well-loved public house in the heart of County Antrim has been placed on the market, sparking a wave of emotion among locals and loyal patrons.

Hunters Bar, situated at 106 Cushendall Road near Carey, has long served as a popular meeting place for the local community. Now, the family-run business is preparing for a new chapter, having announced their decision to sell the premises — a move they describe as made with “a heavy heart.”

The property comprises a traditionally built two-storey building with a pitched slate roof and a modern single-storey rear extension, designed to bring in ample natural light. Inside, the bar offers a welcoming front bar, a spacious rear lounge and function area, a fitted kitchen, and conveniently located WC blocks. The interior is well finished throughout, featuring oil-fired central heating and a stove in the front bar for added comfort.

Externally, customers benefit from a large, partially covered outdoor area, with generous car parking to the side of the premises, accessed directly from Cushendall Road.

In a social media post, the current owners thanked customers and staff for their ongoing support, saying:
“Hunters has always been more than just a business – it’s been at the heart of the community… You’ve made the pub what it is, and we’re truly grateful.”

While the property is now on the market, the owners have reassured the community that the bar will continue to operate as normal for the time being — with plans for a series of celebratory events before its final handover.
