Frozen food giant Iceland Foods Ltd has submitted a second planning application to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council, reinforcing its ambitions to establish a new store in Coleraine.

The application outlines proposals for the creation of a plant cage and bin store, constructed from flow forge material, as well as the installation of mechanical plant equipment. Plans also include three new openings in the external wall to accommodate pipework and ventilation grills, and the erection of a lean-to canopy at the rear of the unit.

The development is earmarked for the former Argos site at Unit 2, Riverside Regional Centre.

Earlier this year we revealed exclusively that Iceland Foods Group, the UK’s leading frozen food retailer, was eyeing the Riverside location as part of its strategic expansion across Northern Ireland. The opening of the Coleraine outlet remains subject to planning approval, with a projected launch date in 2026.

A spokesperson for Iceland commented, "We’re excited to announce plans for a new Coleraine Food Warehouse store in Northern Ireland, set to open in 2026 and bring a range of great value and quality products to the local community."

The company also confirmed that the existing Iceland store on Railway Road will remain open, continuing to serve customers with the same trusted service.
