Hundreds Of Jobs Could Be Created Under Coleraine Harbour Plans
Oct 19, 2026
A long-term plan to redevelop Coleraine Harbour could create hundreds of jobs, its commissioners say.
The proposals would see the port accommodate new tourism, sporting, and industrial facilities, including a hotel, student accommodation, and a high-performance rowing centre.
The “2050 masterplan” also includes industrial units that could support servicing a proposed offshore wind farm off the north coast by 2035.
Harbour commissioners, led by vice-chair Richard Connor, presented their ambitions to Stormont’s Infrastructure Committee last week as they sought legislative changes to support the port’s development.
The harbour’s future will also be considered by Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council’s Leisure and Development Committee tomorrow evening, Tuesday 20 October.
In correspondence sent to council chief executive David Jackson on 6 October, Mr Connor requested support for proposed governance changes and cooperation with the Department for Infrastructure and Harbour Board on new Harbour Orders.
He said modernising the harbour’s operating framework could strengthen its contribution to Coleraine and the wider borough, while creating opportunities for investment and regeneration.
Councillors are being asked to support further work on those arrangements. The correspondence does not seek approval for the individual developments outlined in the masterplan.
