Future of Coleraine Marina to be decided in coming weeks
May 10, 2024The fate of Coleraine Marina hangs in the balance as Causeway Coast & Glens Borough Council prepares to consider two potential options in the coming weeks.
Sources have revealed to Explore Causeway Coast & Glens that the marina requires substantial repairs.
Estimated costs will reach a staggering £800,000 for the landward side and a further £700,000 for marine-side maintenance.
The council will consider either maintaining ownership and management of the facility or putting it up for sale.
At the end of last year, a decision on the sale of Coleraine Marina was postponed to give councillors additional time to evaluate a proposal.
In September, Cloonavin’s Environmental Services Committee received an economic assessment of the facilities, which concluded with a “disposal” recommendation.
The report analysed the socio-economic, tourism, and financial implications of the Council's marina ownership.
During a closed-door meeting, members were informed of "a formal expression of interest from a public body in purchasing Coleraine Marina as a going concern."
Whatever the decision, these crucial choices in the weeks ahead will shape the future of this vital maritime hub.
