Council is thrilled to be back on the grid, proudly supporting the Briggs Equipment North West 200 through its Tourism Event Funding Programme.

This high-octane fund roared into action earlier this year and will fuel 10 community events throughout 2025, with none other than the world-famous North West 200 taking the first pole position!

Earlier this week, Mayor of Causeway Coast and Glens, Councillor Ciarán McQuillan, joined Events Manager Gareth Fall in the thick of the action, meeting with the NW200 pit crew – aka the dedicated organising committee.

The Mayor said: “I was pleased to meet with Mervyn Whyte MBE and Gerard McAuley, during my visit to the Briggs Equipment North West 200 paddock.

“Council is pleased to support the NW200 via the Tourism Event Funding Programme and I know I join with many sporting and racing fans as we look forward to race week commencing 5th May 2025.

“Of course, this year Council will also be marking the 25th anniversary of Joey Dunlop’s untimely death as our Joey 25 event on the 24th May, which I would also encourage you to come along to.”

As the fastest show on two wheels, the NW200 isn’t just Ireland’s largest annual sporting event – it’s a full-throttle celebration of speed, skill, and spectacle.

Councillor McQuillan added: “While visitors and locals are here for the North West 200 I hope that while enjoying the racing, they also find time to enjoy the scenery, hospitality and fantastic local businesses we have in Causeway Coast and Glens.”

Council’s backing isn’t just about the now – it’s about keeping this iconic event racing into the future.

Through the Tourism Event Fund, support helps boost event delivery, sustainability, and keeps the organisational engine finely tuned with vital skills and resources.

With thousands of visitors and a multi-million-pound boost to the local economy, the NW200 doesn’t just bring the noise – it brings serious value to the region.

NW200 Event Director, Mervyn Whyte MBE, thanked the Mayor, saying: “Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has partnered with the NW200 for many years now and we are fortunate to call this area of outstanding natural beauty the home of racing.

“Council’s support helps us stage the races and we will continue to work with them all year round to enable us to bring this great event to the fans.”

So buckle up – the countdown to race week has officially begun!
