Former Waterworld Site Awaiting Property Decision Five Years After Closure
Apr 29, 2025
The former Waterworld facility in Portrush, closed since February 2020, remains under council ownership with no immediate decision on its future, it was confirmed at this evening's Corporate Policy and Resources Committee.
Alderman Mark Fielding raised the issue, noting the five-year vacancy period has prompted questions from local residents about the property's status.
Director of Corporate Services Moira Quinn explained that legal solicitors are currently working on "perfecting" the property title before any decisions can proceed through the land and property committee.
Ms Quinn highlighted a vacant strategic asset manager position in their structure, with the job description being finalised ahead of a planned recruitment campaign in mid-May. This role will be responsible for progressing decisions on council-owned properties, including the former Waterworld site.
