End Of An Era As S & T Moore Coleraine Passes To Wallace’s Of Ballymena

A long-established Coleraine menswear retailer is set to enter a new chapter after nearly half a century, as owner Samuel Moore prepares for retirement and the business is taken over by Wallace’s of Ballymena.

In a statement released today (Tuesday 13 January 2026), S & T Moore confirmed that Samuel Moore will be stepping back after 48 years at the helm of the business, which began as a small local shop before becoming a familiar and trusted fixture in the town.

“We’re excited to share some big news,” the statement said. “After 48 incredible years, our owner Samuel Moore will be stepping into a well earned retirement.”

The announcement marks the end of an era for generations of customers who have relied on the store for formalwear, everyday menswear and personal service, qualities that helped embed the business into the social fabric of Coleraine.

“What began as a small, local menswear shop has grown into a true part of this town’s fabric, built on loyalty, trust and generations of customers,” the statement continued.

As one chapter closes, another is set to begin, with the store being taken over by Wallace’s of Ballymena, a modern menswear group with existing outlets in Ballymena and Cookstown.

“We are proud to announce that the store is being taken over by Wallaces’s of Ballymena, a modern menswear group with two existing locations, Ballymena and Cookstown, who will bring a fresh vision for the future,” the statement said.

The Coleraine outlet will become Wallace’s third store, expanding the brand’s presence across Northern Ireland’s high streets.“Coleraine will be their third store and we are thrilled to be a part of it.”

There is also a full-circle moment at the heart of the transition, with Samuel Moore having begun his career in menswear with the Wallace name more than five decades ago.

“The story has come full circle, as ironically Samuel started his career in menswear with J.S Wallace, as they were known in those days, back in 1974, a fitting end to the tale.”

Over the coming weeks, the store will undergo a full rebrand and refurbishment, with customers promised a refreshed look and an expanded retail offering.

“Over the coming weeks, the store will be fully rebranded to Wallace Coleraine and the shop will undergo a spectacular renovation, with a new look, new brands, and an elevated shopping experience.”

For regular customers, continuity will be maintained alongside the changes, with familiar faces remaining in the store.

“In the new store, familiar faces remain with Billy Clarke and Chris White sharing the role of store manager and Samuel Hyndman also staying on as a valued member of the team.”

While Samuel Moore steps into retirement, the statement struck an optimistic tone about the future.
“This is not goodbye. It’s a bold step forward.”

The new owners say they are looking forward to welcoming customers into the reimagined store and building on the legacy created over nearly five decades.
