County Antrim Farm Diversifies With Glamping Pod Consent
May 03, 2025
Planning permission has been granted for a glamping development at “The Causeway Coast Cabins” on Moyarget Farm, located three miles south-west of Ballycastle on County Antrim’s Causeway Coast.
The consent covers the installation of four factory-built glamping pods, each set on external decking with surrounding gravel borders to facilitate natural roof-runoff infiltration.
Site works include upgrading an existing permeable access track, providing a new parking and turning area, secure bicycle storage, EV-charging points, and dedicated recycling and refuse facilities. Foul drainage will be managed via a private package treatment plant and soakaway system, while all hard landscaping will employ permeable materials.
Landscaping plans include planting native trees, shrubs, and wildflower meadow grass to integrate the development into its rural setting. The cabins are intended for year-round operation, offering short breaks and weekend stays. Bicycle lending and proximity to public transport encourage sustainable travel.
The scheme has been approved as a farm diversification measure, with profits from the glamping site set to support the long-term viability of Moyarget Farm’s agricultural operations. The developer has committed to using local suppliers and labour for groundworks and services and to creating two part-time roles for site cleaning and maintenance.
