The Dark Hedges

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has formally agreed to seek clarification from Stormont departments over the future management and long-term protection of the Dark Hedges.

The proposal was ratified at a full meeting of the council last night, with councillors agreeing to write to the Department for Infrastructure and the Department for the Economy.

The council is seeking details of the plans in place to safeguard the world-famous tree-lined avenue, including future investment, maintenance programmes, and any long-term strategy for its protection.

Councillors also want to know what funding may be available, how agencies are working together to manage the site, and what measures are being taken to ensure the attraction remains safe and accessible for residents and visitors alike.

The Dark Hedges is one of Northern Ireland's most recognisable landmarks, attracting thousands of visitors each year. The council says it is important to have a coordinated approach in place to preserve the iconic avenue for future generations while balancing tourism with conservation.
