National Armed Forces Day

Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council has supported a proposal to explore a bid to host National Armed Forces Day in 2028.

The Notice of Motion, proposed by Councillor Philip Anderson and seconded by Councillor Huggins, follows the Regional Armed Forces Day event held in Coleraine earlier this month. The council's published agenda described the 2026 event as a "tremendous success".

The motion calls on the council to explore hosting the national event in 2028 and submit a bid to the relevant authorities.

At this evening's meeting, Councillor Wilson supported the proposal in the Mayor's absence.

The move follows calls to build on the Regional Armed Forces Day celebrations, which drew thousands to Coleraine and included military displays, entertainment and activities in the town centre.

The council will now explore what it would take to progress a potential bid for the 2028 national event.

The motion will go before full council now for ratification.
