The Irish Cup Final will take place this Saturday at Windsor Park, where Coleraine FC will look to cap off a standout season.
A proposal to recognise the club’s achievements through a community celebration in Coleraine town centre is set to go before Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council next week.
The Notice of Motion, proposed by Alderman Fielding and seconded by Councillor Elder, will be presented to full Council on Tuesday 5 May 2026 at 7.00pm, before being referred to the relevant committee for further consideration.
The motion acknowledges Coleraine FC’s achievement in finishing runners-up in the Irish Premiership and reaching the Irish Cup Final, highlighting the pride and unity this has brought to Coleraine and the wider Borough.
It states that, regardless of the outcome of Saturday’s final, the club’s journey represents a significant success for the area, reflecting the dedication of players, management, volunteers and supporters.
Councillors are being asked to support working in partnership with stakeholders, including local representatives, community groups and business organisations, to facilitate a community-led event in the town centre.
The proposed event could take place on a Saturday afternoon and is intended to create a positive atmosphere while supporting increased footfall and offering opportunities for local businesses to benefit.
The motion also calls for the Council to formally write to Coleraine FC to commend the club’s performance and thank them for the positive way they have represented the Borough.
Coleraine will face Dungannon Swifts in Saturday’s final, with strong support expected both at Windsor Park and across the north coast.
