Coleraine’s Former Captains Bar Could Sail Into New Chapter

A once well-known Coleraine bar that has stood empty since going on the market in 2020 may soon welcome customers again — if a licensing application is approved next month.

Farnmore Investments Limited has lodged an application for the grant of a licence for 8 Captain Street Lower, the former home of Captains Bar. The company, which owns the premises, intends to sell alcohol for consumption both on and off the property.

The case will be heard at Antrim Courthouse on Monday 1 September 2025, where a County Court judge will decide whether to approve the application.

In recent months, visible work has been taking place inside the building, sparking speculation among locals about its future. 

If granted, the licence would also permit extended opening hours — until 1:00am on weeknights, Sundays, and New Year’s Eve.

The current licence for another premises at Castlecat Road, Dervock, will be surrendered as part of the process.
