A planning application has been lodged for a new strength and conditioning facility in Coleraine, aimed at supporting the development of local rugby talent.

Coleraine Grammar Rugby Association Ltd, a registered charity, has submitted the proposal for the facility, which will be situated approximately 500 metres east of Coleraine Grammar School, on land off Castlerock Road.

The development is earmarked for a site currently used as grass training pitches and lies adjacent to existing changing rooms and a boat store. The land is privately owned by the C.A.I. Trust – also a registered charity – and is not under the control of the education authority.

According to planning documents, the facility will be a “high-quality, sustainable building” designed to complement the surrounding area. It aims to meet all relevant planning guidelines, with environmental and visual impact assessments indicating minimal disruption to the local environment.

The facility is expected to play a key role in supporting the training and development of players within the Coleraine Rugby Association pathways. The organisation says it is a “necessary” addition to enhance the sustainability and quality of athletic preparation for young players in the borough.

A decision on the planning application is expected in due course.
