Danske Bank may be preparing to relocate its Coleraine branch, according to a new planning application submitted to Causeway Coast and Glens Borough Council.

The bank has applied for permission to carry out a refurbishment of 33 The Diamond — the former First Trust Bank premises — which has remained vacant since November 2021.

While no formal announcement has been made, the nature and scale of the application suggest that Danske is intending to move its operations from its current location at 22 The Diamond.

The plans detail a full internal fit-out of the building to create a bank branch and office space in line with Danske Bank’s current operational standards.

Proposed works include the removal of all existing internal finishes, the installation of new surfaces, joinery and sanitaryware across multiple floors, and structural changes to the rear of the building.

These changes involve raising the rear floor level and lifting the flat roof by around 500mm to improve internal ceiling height.

The bank is also seeking permission for new external signage, including one illuminated shopfront sign and one projecting sign.

Two new ATMs are planned for the front and side elevations to enhance accessibility from pedestrian routes.

A planning statement says the proposed changes have been designed to respect the building’s “architectural character and urban setting”.

The planning application is currently under review.
