23-Space Hotel Car Park Planned Near Portrush Town Hall

Planning permission has been submitted for a new private car park in Portrush to serve guests of The Marcus Hotel.

The application, lodged by Andras House Ltd, relates to lands adjacent to and north of No.1 Mark Street, close to Portrush Town Hall. The proposal includes 23 private parking spaces, along with associated car parking equipment, fencing, servicing and a heritage-style boundary treatment facing the Town Hall.

According to the Design and Access Statement, the site extends to approximately 0.07 hectares and currently comprises a level concrete plinth. Vehicular access would be taken from Mark Street using an existing dropped kerb, with the car park positioned above an undercroft parking area that already serves nearby apartments on Kerr Street.

Given the site’s proximity to Portrush Town Hall, a Grade B+ listed building, the plans outline a conservation-led design approach. The statement notes that careful consideration has been given to the impact on the setting of the listed building, with the aim of preserving and enhancing its prominence within the townscape.

Proposed boundary treatments include metal railings along the Mark Street frontage, designed to match the existing railings to the north, and decorative metal gates near the Town Hall boundary. The applicant says these measures are intended to provide a clear distinction between public and private spaces while respecting the area's architectural character.

The application will now be considered by planners as part of the council’s normal planning process.
