Slipway Repair Portballintrae Harbour

A major repair and improvement project at Portballintrae harbour has been approved, with works expected to begin in March and finish ahead of the summer season.

The scheme, valued at more than £100,000, will focus on repairs to the harbour slipway, a key piece of infrastructure used by local fishermen, boat owners and other harbour users.

Welcoming the decision, Alderman Richard Brown Stewart, Deputy Mayor, said the investment showed a clear commitment to maintaining essential coastal infrastructure.

He described the slipway as a “vital asset” for the village, supporting both the local fishing community and visitors drawn to Portballintrae’s maritime heritage.

“These works will help ensure the slipway remains safe, accessible and fit for purpose,” he said.

Portballintrae harbour is a focal point of the village, serving commercial, recreational and tourism uses throughout the year. The planned improvements are intended to protect the long-term usability of the slipway and reduce future maintenance issues.

The Deputy Mayor said he would continue to support investment projects that benefit coastal communities across the borough.
