The National Trust has completed the acquisition process of the historic Causeway Memorial School. The school, designed by the esteemed architect Clough Williams-Ellis for Edward Baron Macnaghton in 1915, had been leased to the Education Authority for an extended period.

The agreement for the school's transfer was settled in 2019, but the National Trust held back from assuming ownership until a resolution on the repair costs was reached. Now that this issue has been addressed, the charity has kick-started efforts to safeguard the structure.

In addition, the National Trust shared that consultations with local residents concerning the future of the school will be conducted.

In a statement the National Trust said “We are delighted to receive the Causeway Memorial School into the care of the National Trust and we look forward to caring for this culturally significant building. We have been carrying out priority repairs to prevent further decay of the building. We will be working with the local community to establish a long-term vision for the school, which respects the original aims of the Causeway Memorial School Trust and our values as a conservation charity.”
