World Bee Celebrations - Visit Causeway Coast & Glens

Did you know that bees are so important to the health of our planet that they have their very own special day to celebrate them each year? It's time to mark your calendars and get ready for the World Bee Celebrations happening on Saturday, May 20th, 2023. 🎉

Join the National Trust team at Northern Ireland's only UNESCO World Heritage Site - The Giant's Causeway for a day filled with exciting activities aimed at raising awareness about bees and learning how to care for them. Whether you're a bee enthusiast or simply curious about these incredible creatures, there's something for everyone.

The event kicks off at 10:30 am and runs throughout the day, offering a range of activities designed to engage and educate participants. Here's a glimpse of what you can expect:

⏰ 10:30 am to Noon - Make your own Bee Box* Take part in a hands-on workshop where you can create your very own bee nesting box. This activity aims to promote the thriving of solitary bees in your garden, contributing to the overall well-being of these vital pollinators.

*Bee Box making will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis. Make sure to arrive promptly to register for this activity as spaces may be limited.

⏰ 2:00 pm - Beekeeper Talk - Immerse yourself in the fascinating world of beekeeping as resident Beekeeper, Dr. Cliff, shares insights into how he takes care of his colonies of 80,000 bees.

Discover the intricate processes involved in honey production, with each colony producing over 150 lbs of honey annually. This talk is a rare opportunity to learn from an expert and gain a deeper appreciation for the essential role bees play in our ecosystems.

⏰ 3:15 pm - Pollinator Survey - Contribute to vital research efforts by joining Nature Engagement Officer Dr. Cliff in conducting a pollinator survey. Participate in monitoring and collecting data to understand how pollinator populations are changing nationwide. Your involvement will make a meaningful impact on the ongoing conservation of these crucial species.

While you're enjoying the festivities, make sure to visit the retail area, where you can explore a wide range of bee-spoke bee products. From delicious honey to handcrafted beeswax candles and more, you'll find something to take home as a sweet reminder of your bee-inspired day. ☺
